New research:

How can food businesses better support healthier, more sustainable choices when consumers are facing real-world pressures around affordability and food insecurity?

Join IGD and academic experts for two free webinars sharing new research, into food insecurity and obesity.

The sessions bring together lived experience, consumer insights and purchasing data to explore where industry and policy can make the biggest difference.

What does it actually take to make healthier and more sustainable food choices when budgets are tight?

Join us as leading UK researchers share evidence-based insights from the FIO Food project, a UKRI-funded grant exploring food insecurity in people living with obesity, to improve sustainable and healthier food choices in the retail food environment.

Bringing together lived experience, consumer research and industry perspectives, this session will challenge assumptions about choice and explore what a fairer, healthier food environment could look like.

We’ll explore:

  • How food insecurity shapes healthy and sustainable food choices in the supermarket

  • What consumers really think about retailer strategies and interventions

  • Where there are opportunities to better support people facing constrained choices

  • What retailers and the wider food system can do differently

  • Prof. Alex Johnstone, University of Aberdeen: A citizens call to action

  • Dr Hannah Greatwood (Leeds Beckett University) & Dr Emma Hunter (Robert Gordon University): Conscious but Constrained: How food insecurity shapes healthy and sustainable food choices in the supermarket

  • Prof. Charlotte Hardman, University of Liverpool: Supporting healthier and more environmentally sustainable food purchasing in UK retail settings: Consumer and industry perspectives

There will be time for Q&A at the end of the session. This is one of two linked sessions (27 and 29 October).
