New research:

How can food businesses better support healthier, more sustainable choices when consumers are facing real-world pressures around affordability and food insecurity?

Join IGD and academic experts for two free webinars sharing new research, into food insecurity and obesity.

The sessions bring together lived experience, consumer insights and purchasing data to explore where industry and policy can make the biggest difference.

Can healthier, more sustainable food choices also work for consumers facing pressure on price?

Hear from leading researchers across health, sustainability, consumer behaviour and policy as they translate big data into practical recommendations for the food system.

We’ll explore:

  • How purchasing and consumption habits vary by weight status

  • Where the biggest opportunities for healthier and more sustainable food choices lie

  • What product footprints can tell us about real-world basket change

  • How we can make progress fairly

  • What the evidence means for policy and retail practice

  • Dr Thomas Sawczuk, Leeds Beckett University: Purchase and consumption habits by weight status: Where can we make the biggest difference?

  • Dr Emma Wilkins, University of Leeds: From product footprints to real basket change

  • Prof. Mark Green, University of Liverpool: Ensuring fairness in the food system

  • Prof. Michelle Morris, University of Leeds: Policy and practice key recommendations

The FIO Food project, is a UKRI-funded grant exploring food insecurity in people living with obesity.

There will be time for Q&A at the end of the session. This is one of two linked sessions (27 and 29 October).

Food insecurity, obesity and the supermarket: What does real life tell us?

What does it actually take to make healthier and more sustainable food choices when budgets are tight?
