Industry bodies including the National Farmers Union, the Food and Drink Federation and the British Retail Consortium have called on government to take “urgent and meaningful” action to solve structural supply chain issues facing the industry.

These measures include:

  • A commitment to maintain Britain’s food production self-sufficiency at 60%

  • Helping to create an environment for farm and food businesses to thrive and compete

  • A clear strategy for solving labour shortages throughout the supply chain

  • Collaboration between government, industry and farmers
