ONS surveyed GB adults over 08 - 19 September 2021 and uncovered the effect of poor stock levels on shopping experiences:

  • 18% noted shortages of essential food in last 2 weeks

  • 25% noted shortage of non-essential foods

  • 58% report experienced unusual difficulty food shopping – mostly reduced availability

  • 85% bought the same amount as usual, 6% bought more, 8% bought less

  • 22% reported issues obtaining medicines
