Reducing food waste while saving shoppers’ money

By letting shoppers decide whether their food is edible, this change is intended to reduce food waste at shoppers’ homes while simultaneously saving them money.

Maintaining product freshness

Store colleagues will use a new code to ensure product quality and freshness are maintained. They are supported by specialist greengrocers in over 250 stores, who are well-trained in all aspects of the Asda fresh produce operation. Training includes knowledge of where products should be stored to maintain freshness and quality.

On-pack and online guidance is offered to shoppers to help them understand how best to store and prepare fresh produce, in addition to hints and tips on how to reduce food waste.

Reducing food waste is a priority for Asda

Andy Cockshaw, Head of Technical at Asda IPL, said: “Reducing food waste in our business and in customers’ homes is a priority and we are always looking at different ways to achieve this. We know for customers this has become more important than ever in the current climate as many families are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and are looking to make savings wherever they can.”
