IGD welcomes Dairy Roadmap

10 July 2025

IGD welcomes Dairy Roadmap as model for cross-sector climate collaboration.

IGD welcomes the launch of the next phase of the Dairy Roadmap, which brings together farmers, retailers, foodservice, wholesale organisations, and processors under a unified governance structure. This landmark coalition reflects a shared commitment to tackling climate, nature, and water challenges while maintaining high standards of animal welfare.

The Roadmap’s emphasis on shared responsibility across the supply chain, from farm gate to kitchen table, strongly aligns with the principles set out in IGD’s Net Zero Transition Plan for the UK Food System, launched in November 2024. That plan, developed in partnership with EY and WRAP, provided a robust evidence base for the changes needed across both supply and demand to meet the UK’s legally binding carbon targets.

IGD is encouraged to see the dairy sector continuing to lead with a progressive and inclusive approach. The establishment of a new Steering Group, comprising AHDB, Dairy UK, NFU, Arla Foods UK, Dale Farm, First Milk, Lactalis UK & Ireland, Müller UK & Ireland, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, McDonald’s and Sysco GB, demonstrates the value of cross-sector collaboration in setting strategic direction and driving meaningful change.

“The Dairy Roadmap echoes IGD’s Net Zero Transition Plan’s vision, where unified industry action is essential to achieving the UK food system’s climate, nature, and water goals. We are particularly encouraged by the commitment to produce an independently conducted Sustainable Dairy Pathways Report in 2026. This will be a vital step in identifying the funding and innovation needed to reach net zero, and we look forward to seeing how the entire industry will be invited to contribute.”

— Sarah Bradbury, IGD CEO

As highlighted in IGD’s August 2025 Progress Report, ongoing consultation and collaboration are critical to accelerating progress. The dairy sector’s proactive stance and willingness to evolve its roadmap sends a strong signal of leadership and intent.
