Labour challenges continue to dominate the operational agenda for UK businesses, including those in the food and consumer goods industry.
The latest ONS research shows that 12% of all businesses report having job vacancies that were unusually hard to fill.
However, with the smallest businesses (0-9 employees) excluded from the sample, the proportion with difficulties increases to 41%.
Reasons for trouble recruiting include:
Lack of qualified applicants (53% of businesses with hard-to-fill vacancies)
Lack of applicants overall (46%)
Reduced number of EU applicants(18%)
Uncompetitive pay (16%)
