According to new ONS research, 13% of UK businesses are experienced unusual difficulty in filling job vacancies over August-September 2021.

This rises to 30% for hospitality businesses, meaning that hospitality is the sector most likely to be struggling with recruitment. 31% of these businesses blamed EU Exit for their problems, compared with 25% for all businesses.

In transport and distribution, 15% of businesses reported problems with recruitment but they were especially likely (46%) to blame EU Exit for this.

Other data shows that numbers of EU HGV drivers in particular have fallen sharply over the last year after several consecutive years of growth.
