Asda announced the expansion of its groceries delivery service with Uber Eats in time for the festive season, according to reports from The Grocer.
From 25 to 100 stores
The delivery service, which started initially as a trial in Leeds and Birmingham, has been expanded from 25 stores to 100 stores across the UK.
According to Asda, since more people are due to celebrate Christmas at home this festive season, with COVID-19 restrictions set to remain in place, the partnership was a way to get fresh groceries, fruit and vegetables, and everyday items for rapid delivery to the doorstep.
How does it work?
Customers can order from a range of more than 300 Asda own-brand products and branded staple lines, in the same way as they would when ordering from a restaurant via the Uber Eats app. Once confirmed, the order will then be picked by Asda staff in-store before being collected and delivered by an Uber Eats courier.
This initiative comes at a time when most supermarkets are racing to improve their last mile delivery offering.
Simon Gregg, Vice President of Online Grocery at Asda, commented: “We’re pleased to be able to offer the convenience of rapid delivery across a wide range of products to more Asda customers through the extension of our partnership with Uber Eats.
“Customers in these stores now have even more options to get their favourite Asda brand and branded products quickly delivered to the doorstep.”
Toussaint Wattinne, General Manager at Uber Eats, added: “With the festive season underway, there is once again a growing demand for more grocery delivery options. By expanding our partnership with Asda, we hope that more people will be able to safely and quickly get access to groceries and treats via the Uber Eats app.”
