Track 1: Driving growth in the food system

1:30 – 1:45

Three industry shifts that can’t be ignored

  • Nick Miles, Director of Retail Insight, IGD

As the food, drink, and FMCG landscape evolves and fragments, traditional growth routes are under pressure. Commercial leaders must navigate three transformative shifts: reformulation and healthier, more sustainable choices; the blurring of travel, AFH, F2G, and in-store channels; and hyperconnected stores where data and analytics drive every shopper interaction.

1:45 – 2:15

Growth strategies in action

Building on these shifts, this session highlights how businesses are responding in real time. Through three fast-paced, 10-minute interviews, we’ll spotlight organisations that are unlocking new commercial opportunities and putting the insights from the previous session into practice.

1:45 – 1:55

  • Kari Daniels, CEO, UK and Ireland, SSP Group

1:55 – 2:05

  • Lauren Woodley, Head of Nutrition and Sensory Science, Nomad Foods

2:05 – 2:15

  • Pauline Monin, Director of Product Marketing, VusionGroup

2:15 – 3:00

The role of technology in driving growth

  • Toby Pickard, Retail Futures Senior Partner, IGD (Chair)

  • Roy Horgan, UK&I CEO and Group CMO at VusionGroup

From the shop floor to the supply chain, technology is transforming how growth is achieved across the food system. This session will explore how both retailers and suppliers are embracing innovation to digitise stores, streamline operations, enhance efficiency, and unlock new value. Hear how businesses are leveraging data, automation, and connected technologies to minimise costs, maximise profits, and create smarter, more responsive experiences for customers and partners alike.

Track 2: Adapting to climate and resilience challenges on the path to net zero

1:30 – 1:45pm

Mitigation and adaptation, why we must now tackle them simultaneously

  • Matt Stoughton-Harris, Head of Resilience, IGD

  • Kirsty Saddler, Director of Sustainability & Health Programmes

IGD experts outline why we must consider both mitigation and adaptation as shared challenges with shared solutions.

IGD’s landmark Net Zero Transition Plan for the UK Food System indicated where progress can be made on the road to net zero. This session will begin by taking stock of where the sector stands now - celebrating progress, confronting challenges, and mapping the road ahead.

However, these pathways can be derailed by an unprecedented level of risk faced by the food system, from climate change to geopolitics. IGD’s experts will provide an outline of why as we transition to net zero, it is crucial to face into the reality of climate change already embedded into the system and the impact that it could have on food production.

1:45 – 2:00pm

Keynote

  • Dr Michael Green, Partner, UK&I Climate Change and Sustainability Services, EY

2:00 – 2:30pm

Climate risk and the food system

  • Matt Stoughton-Harris, Head of Resilience, IGD (Chair)

  • Nigel Murray, Managing Director, E H Booth & Co Ltd

  • Dr Michael Green, Partner, UK&I Climate Change and Sustainability Services, EY

  • Sarah Bell, Independent Agrifood Adviser

Climate risk is the defining challenge for the food system. With droughts and extreme rainfall becoming the norm, the resilience of our supply chains and the future of our plates are at stake.

IGD and EY are launching a groundbreaking report and model that quantifies the financial impact of climate risk across the whole UK food system - highlighting challenges in individual sectors. Featuring a keynote followed by a panel, this analysis will help identify where urgent action is needed and where new opportunities lie.

2:30 – 3:00pm

Delivering your transition in line with UK net zero goals

  • Kirsty Saddler, Director of Sustainability & Health Programmes (Chair)

  • David Kennedy, CEO, Science Based Targets Initiative

  • Matthew Farrow, Chief Operating Officer, Broadway Initiative

This session will set the UK agrifood sector in the wider context of the national net zero transition. With insights from Broadway Initiative and SBTi, it will highlight the critical role of the food system in meeting the UK’s climate goals - and how cross-sector alignment, policy coherence, science-based targets and transition funding are shaping the path forward.

Track 3: Reimagining waste: from environmental necessity to economic opportunity

1:30 – 2:10pm

Collaboration over competition: Tackling food waste and insecurity through alliance food sourcing

  • Nicola Robinson, Director of Alliance Food Sourcing, IGD (Chair)

  • George Wright, Special Adviser, FareShare

  • Alex Freudmann, Managing Director, M&S Food

  • Ranjit Singh, President of Boparan Holdings Limited & Owner of 2 Sisters Food Group

  • Charlotte Hill OBE, Chief Executive, The Felix Project

The UK food sector is highly competitive, but some challenges go beyond rivalry—like tackling food waste and supporting families in need. Building on the Coronation Food Project, IGD’s new Alliance Food Sourcing Initiative brings major industry players together to create a fairer, more resilient food system.

With 11 million people facing food insecurity—many of them children—the question is clear: how can the industry bridge the gap between surplus food and hunger, and lead the way in redistribution and community support?

2:10 – 2:20pm

Future of waste: the untapped potential of circular solutions

  • Catherine David, CEO, WRAP

2:20 – 2:55pm

Innovation in action: Circular solutions in practice

  • Catherine David, CEO, Wrap (Chair)

  • Emma Keller, Head of Sustainability, Nestle UK & Ireland

  • Aoife Dillon Principal Scientist, Crop Protection at Fera Science

Experts from WRAP will introduce the opportunity to transform waste into economic value. With insights from Wrap, Nestle and Fera Science, the session will realise the commercial, environmental, and social benefit of circular planning and innovation to businesses and the wider food system.

A spotlight on leading innovations and trials in circular solutions shared by brands and retail partners will highlight latest progress, how to manage risk and cost, and unlock barriers to scale.

2:55 – 3:00pm

Closing remarks

  • Nicola Robinson, Director of Alliance Food Sourcing, IGD (Chair)

3:00 – 3:20

Comfort break

3:20 – 4:05

A blueprint for success: Unlocking rural growth

From launching a ‘national conversation’ on land use to announcing a 25-year farming roadmap and plans for regulatory harmonisation, the government has introduced a series of policy initiatives aimed at enhancing the resilience and competitiveness of the UK food system. These initiatives seek to create a more profitable and thriving farming sector, transform land use to protect nature and spur investment, and empower a food retail industry that is key to the government’s growth mission.

While this is a positive step, significant efforts are still required to secure the long-term prosperity of a food system built on the back of farmers.

This session will convene a panel of leading CEOs to identify the collective actions required—from farm to fork—to unlock rural growth and turn ideas into action, assessing key challenges and examining where trade-offs might exist.
