What we do with the food
Neighbourly is a technology platform that connects food businesses with a network of over 45,000 charities, schools and community organisations across the UK and Ireland. These groups collect the surplus food and use it for social benefit including supporting those affected by food insecurity. The food is distributed in food parcels and as cooked meals, through foodbanks, community centres, homeless shelters, day care centres, youth projects, home deliveries and more.
Operations
Charities and community groups are verified by Neighbourly as being suitable food recipients with the necessary standards of food hygiene and are approved based on their ability to handle ambient, fresh and chilled food with a use by date, subject to having the required facilities and operations for the volumes they are handling. Surplus can be collected via the charity network direct from retailers at the store level, or in bulk from regional distribution centres and manufacturers, across the UK and Ireland.
Wider network
Neighbourly manages a network of over 45,000 vetted charities and community causes.
Key programmes/capabilities
Neighbourly is in the unique position of having a network of thousands of front-line community organisations that are delivering essential programmes at a hyper-local level. By supporting these organisations with donations of surplus products, businesses are able to take positive environmental measures and deliver social value – thereby translating the enormity of the Sustainable Development Goals into meaningful local action.
