EU Exit: Guidance for seafood exports to the EU
26 January 2021UK seafood exporters have reported difficulty exporting their goods to EU markets.
In the first weeks of 2021, UK seafood exporters have reported difficulty exporting their goods to EU markets, due to new administrative requirements on the EU side.
Seafood products are especially sensitive to delay, but the UK government reports that problems are gradually being overcome. A £23m fund has been established to cover losses incurred by businesses.
Improved guidance has also been issued, covering both exports to the EU and landing seafood in the EU and this may help to overcome “friction”.
So far, problems importing goods to the UK have been limited but this is likely to be because the UK is imposing regulations gradually, over the first half of 2021, whereas the EU implemented change from 01 January.
Importers should be aware that introduction of new regulations may still impact imports in April and July 2021, but this might be avoided by following the guidance provided.
