OLIO’s Food Waste Heroes Programme
19 February 2022OLIO’s Food Waste Heroes Programme offers businesses a hassle-free way to achieve zero edible food waste.
We connect trained volunteers with local businesses to collect their unsold food, stopping it from going to waste. Once collected, our volunteers then redistribute it to their local community via the OLIO app. We work closely with businesses of all shapes and sizes, including supermarkets, quick service restaurants, contract caterers, retail sites, rapid delivery companies, logistics businesses and more.

What we do with the food
Our volunteers collect food from local stores, and list each item on the OLIO app. Neighbours then get in touch with our volunteers through the app to arrange a doorstep handover. Food ends up on tables, not in the bin, and communities can see how local businesses are making a positive impact.

Testimonials
“Since our partnership began I have been amazed at what’s been delivered. The pace and strength your team has shown in adapting to a continuously changing market - and the variations in technologies you have managed to adapt to to integrate seamlessly with our systems - are skills which are rare amongst emerging companies.”
Ben Dingley, Food Waste Operations Project Manager, Tesco
“We spent years scouring the market for a partner with the necessary food handling processes to redistribute this unavoidable waste, and OLIO was the first we came across that had the necessary capabilities. We have seen some enormous benefits since embarking on our partnership, and if more companies engaged with this wonderful initiative the amount of food wasted could be dramatically reduced, not to mention the enormous impact it can have in addressing issues relating to poverty and hunger in communities.”
Peter Marsh, formerly CEO of Planet Organic
