Change in behaviours during and after the coronavirus pandemic

8 April 2021

The Office for National Statistics has published new research based on a survey conducted 10-14 March 2021 which compares:

  • Behaviours adopted or expanded during the Coronavirus outbreak
  • Expected retention of those behaviours after the threat has passed

The results reveal the following:

  • The activity most-adopted and the one most-expected to be retained is avoiding crowds
  • Many of the respondents who claimed to have done more online grocery shopping since the start of COVID-19 expect to keep doing it after the end of COVID-19
  • As foodservice plans to open up for outdoor and indoor eating, relatively few respondents plan to continue ordering take-aways more after the end of COVID-19
