The Business and Planning Act 2020 received Royal Assent on 22 July and is now law. The Act includes special measures to assist the use of pavements for hospitality business by setting out chairs etc. This is meant to protect against coronavirus by increasing “social distancing” between patrons.
Planning guidelines to support these changes have now been issued. The special measures will remain in place until 2021, allowing for social distancing for a considerable period into the future, although this is said to be a “future-proofing” point rather than a reflection of the anticipated course of coronavirus.
