Special measures for Leicester and surrounding areas

Date : 30 June 2020

In the Government’s document “Our Plan to Rebuild”, it states that the relaxation of lockdown measures may be reversed on a local basis according to medical outcomes.

This has now happened in several locations, including GP surgeries, hospitals, and food processing plants. The government has now gone further and taken measures to cover a whole city.

Leicester and surrounding communities have shown an unusually high number of coronavirus cases and will not benefit from the national easing of lockdown measures planned from 04 July. Non-essential retail, which has re-opened will be required to close once again.

Additional testing resources for Leicester residents have been deployed.

This position will be reviewed in two weeks.
