Charitable Impact
IGD plays an active role in bringing the industry together to collaborate through education and research, and focus on specific issues. Our industry working groups represent the total food and grocery supply chain to tackle industry-wide challenges. Our groups are all open access and anyone can get involved. We share their work publicly to make the biggest possible difference.

Our current groups

Each group features a range of companies from across the industry and  operates strictly within our competition law compliance policy.

Policy Issues Council

The Policy Issues Council (PIC) is a forum of industry leaders that debates the strategic challenges facing the consumer good industry, focusing on economics, employment and skills, health and nutrition, sustainability and science.

The Supply Chain Leaders Forum (SCLF) champions Supply Chain Collaboration. It brings companies together to help them serve consumers better, faster, at less cost and in a more sustainable way.

The Supply Chain Leaders Forum exists to promote the message of collaboration helping companies across the food and grocery industry to better meet consumer needs better, faster and in a more sustainable way.

We seek to spearhead change in the industry through specific projects by creating best practice and sharing this across the wider industry to encourage adoption/implementation.

The Supply Chain Leaders Forum provides a collaborative forum for retailers, manufacturers, distributors and foodservice operators to better meet the needs of shoppers.

The Executive Board provides leadership on the biggest issues affecting the UK supply chain. It brings people together to develop practical solutions that deliver meaningful change and sponsors projects in areas such as product and packaging waste and people development.

The results of the projects and initiatives are shared widely through our events, website and media.

People Programmes Group

The People Programmes group helps provide operational support for IGD’s people programmes that upskill people working in or looking to join the food and grocery industry.

The  purpose of the People Programmes group is to help drive greater awareness and engagement at scale across the industry and support (voluntarily) the delivery of IGD’s people programmes.

The working groups core function is to:

  • Inform IGD’s employability and skills programmes e.g. a watching brief on apprenticeships  
  • Support the development of new channels e.g. blended Fast Track programme for early careers professionals
  • Ensure all programmes meet the training and education requirements of the industry and always within Competition Law
  • Use collective expertise to help drive greater awareness and engagement at scale across the industry and support (voluntarily) the delivery of IGD’s people programmes 
  • Encourage colleagues to participate in programmes where applicable

Healthy Eating in the Workplace Advisory Group

The Healthy Eating in the Workplace Advisory Group (HEWAG) supports and advises on pilot schemes to help employees make healthier food and drink choices in the workplace.

This is a cross-functional group consisting of relevant experts and representatives from participating companies of our healthy eating in the workplace pilots. 

The group has been set up to support and advises on the workplace experiments that form part of IGD's Healthy Eating programme. 

These experiments aim to identify interventions to nudge employees to make healthier food and drink choices in the workplace.
