David is a vastly experienced retailer who joined Tesco PLC at the age of 16 and worked there for 39 years. He rose to become CEO of its Ireland business; its UK retail stores business and then CEO of Tesco Asia. David was also on the Tesco PLC Board from 1998 until he left in 2011. Prior to his appointment as CEO of Morrisons, David held several advisory positions with a number of private equity and consultancy firms and developed his own retail concept to sell general merchandise. He also worked on two extensive retail projects in the UK.

Rachel joined Morrisons in April 2021 as their Chief Customer and Marketing Officer, responsible for customer service, brand and product development, marketing, price and promotions, digital, customer experience, insight and PR.

Prior to joining Morrisons, she held a number of senior marketing and commercial roles at Sainsbury's and Barclays. She is also a Non Executive Director on the global fiduciary board of The Marketing Society, and has previously been a trustee of the charity Missing People.

Rachel holds an MBA with Distinction from Imperial College Business School, an MPhil with Distinction in Linguistics from the University of Cambridge and a First Class BA(Hons) degree in French, German and Dutch from the University of Nottingham.

Outside of work, Rachel is an overly doting auntie and godmother, Francophile, avid but average skier, and occasional Peloton-er.

James Badger is the Group Commercial and Manufacturing Director with responsibility for Trading, Supply Chain and Procurement teams, the Online, Wholesale and Convenience businesses and the 19 Manufacturing businesses that Morrisons operate. James' previous roles in his 10 years at Morrisons include running the Online, Wholesale and Convenience businesses as well as Group Financial Controller and Supermarkets Finance Director. Prior to joining Morrisons, James had 9 years at Tesco in a number of senior Finance roles in the UK and Asia. James qualified as a Charted Accountant with Deloitte in London. James lives in North Yorkshire and is widowed with three young children; he is a keen cyclist.

Joseph has been at Morrisons for four years having previously held various operational and online roles at Asda.

He joined Morrisons as online director and led the growth of the channel during the Covid pandemic. From there he moved to become the Director of Morrisons Meat, Fish & Eggs categories with end to end accountability for those business units from sourcing for our manufacturing sites all the way through to the shelf edge. In May 2022, he moved to his current role as Morrisons Group Convenience, Online and Wholesale Director with accountability for Morrisons.com, Fuel, our growing Wholesale & Franchise business and the integration of the McColl’s business into Morrisons.

Gail has a passion for food, with a background in Food Science and over 30 years’ experience gained across a number of FMCG Food Retailers, holding senior roles across Own Brand, Product Development & Commercial functions, joining Morrisons 6 years ago.

Ruth McDonald is Morrisons Corporate Services Director. She has more than 25 years experience in Technical and Sustainability, performing roles in both retail and manufacturing sectors in the UK and Internationally.

Ruth joined Morrisons for the second time in 2019 and after leading our Technical teams across Morriosons manufacturing and retail she now leads our Safety, Compliance, Quality, Sustainability and Business Continuity programmes and teams.

In addition to her responsibilities at Morrisons Ruth is a board member of FIIN (Food Industry Intelligence Network) and a Trustee on the board of IGD.

Matt leads the MMG team of 45 as the Partnership Director. He is a retail and brand professional with 15 years experience spanning both the UK and US markets. Matt started his career on the ALDI graduate scheme and spent 4 years in Operations developing networks of stores, before moving into Buying roles where he found his passion for creating brands and developing award winning ranges. His experience covers ambient, fresh, produce and general merchandise.

After 12 years with ALDI he moved to a brand and packaging design agency, Equator Design, to support their growth in the US as VP Client Service partnering with Walmart, 711 and ALDI US. He then became Global Managing Director. Matt returned to the UK and joined MMG in June 2023.

James’ role at IGD is to help businesses anticipate and cope with strategic events, including: economic pressures, geo-political change, social developments and environmental stress.

James has worked with clients across the entire grocery industry as well as with non-industry groups such as government departments, financial businesses and NGOs.

James is well known for speaking at both UK and international events and provides interviews for TV, radio and the press. He also creates original reports and articles for IGD.

James joined IGD in April 1999 and has served in several roles, becoming Chief Economist in 2004.

Prior to joining IGD, he worked for Hillsdown Holdings, Northern Foods and Rank-Xerox.

Rhian joined IGD at the start of 2015. She leads our ShopperVista research as well as managing bespoke research projects, with a focus on food-to-go research. An expert in both qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

Prior to working for IGD she managed the Customer Insight Team at B&Q.
