Ken joined the Board of Tesco PLC as Group Chief Executive on 1 October 2020.

Prior to joining Tesco, Ken worked for Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. for over 20 years in a number of senior management roles across the business. Through his role as Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer and President Global Brands at Walgreens Boots Alliance, Ken had overall responsibility for brand strategy and the commercial offer in the retail businesses of Walgreens and Boots. He previously worked for Procter & Gamble and Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC).

Ken is a growth-orientated business leader with strong commercial, marketing and brand experience within retail and wholesale businesses. He has experience in global product brand management, product development, sales and marketing, sourcing, manufacturing and distribution.

Alessandra started her career in advertising at JWT Milan, as an apprentice straight out of school and worked in advertising for 12 years in both Italy and the UK.

Alessandra joined Tesco in March 2017, as Group Chief Customer Officer, where she brings together all of the disciplines of marketing, advertising, innovation and insight to create strong and distinctive brand propositions. Above all, she ensures customers are at the heart of everything at Tesco.

Leveraging Tesco’s deep and rich understanding of its customers, provided by the insights from Tesco Clubcard, Alessandra is working to transform Tesco Clubcard into a future looking platform of engagement, serving our customers and suppliers alike.

Prior to Tesco, Alessandra worked for Unilever for over 20 years, holding different board-level positions in marketing and general management in Italy, Central & Eastern Europe and the USA.

She has two grown up children, lives in London and travels around town on a baby-blue Vespa.

Ashwin joined Tesco in 2010 from Mars Inc. He has worked across a number of product divisions as Category Buying Manager, followed by Category Director roles in Household, Bakery, Dairy, Health & Wellness, and then General Merchandise Commercial Director for the UK.

In 2018 Ashwin moved from GM to take on the UK Commercial Director role for Packaged Products and Petrol Filling Stations before being promoted to the Executive Committee in September 2020 as Group Chief Product Officer.

Ashwin is responsible for the strategy and policy for the planning, ranging, sourcing and supply of the products Tesco sell across the Group. In addition, he has direct responsibility for managing this for the UK.

Gordon Gafa, Commercial Director – Packaged Division, Tesco

Gordon was appointed as Commercial Director for the Packaged division at Tesco in February 2022. Prior to that he led the Booker Fresh Food team as Director of Trading for two years.

Joining Tesco in 2011 as a Category Sourcing Manager, Gordon was then promoted in 2013 to Commodities Director, a function he set up from scratch. He then transitioned to Bakery Category Director in 2015, a role which he held for 5 years. In 2017, he also started looking after the Dairy and Local categories. Gordon has 25 years of commercial experience as prior to Tesco he worked in various category and buying roles in FMCG businesses. He is Maltese but relocated to the UK with his family in 2008.

Dominic started his career with Marks and Spencer and for over 21 years he worked in branches with the bulk of his time spent in the food division across all product areas. He latterly became the Commercial Director for fresh food.

Dominic then spent 11 years with the Booker business and has performed numerous roles across the commercial division, most recently as Commercial Director. During his time in wholesale, he has been instrumental in shaping the product agenda and delivery across the retail and catering sectors. He initially led the transformation of Booker's fresh offer, and for the last two years has led the Product function.

Dominic moved from Booker to join the Tesco team as the Commercial Director for the Fresh division at the start of this year.

James Walton, Chief Economist, IGD

James’ role at IGD is to help businesses anticipate and cope with strategic events, including: economic pressures, geo-political change, social developments and environmental stress.

James has worked with clients across the entire grocery industry as well as with non-industry groups such as government departments, financial businesses and NGOs.

James is well known for speaking at both UK and international events and provides interviews for TV, radio and the press. He also creates original reports and articles for IGD.

James joined IGD in April 1999 and has served in several roles, becoming Chief Economist in 2004.

Prior to joining IGD, he worked for Hillsdown Holdings, Northern Foods and Rank-Xerox.

Rhian joined IGD at the start of 2015. She leads our ShopperVista research as well as managing bespoke research projects, with a focus on food-to-go research. An expert in both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Prior to working for IGD she managed the Customer Insight Team at B&Q.
