Ambitions in 2017

The workgroup aims to better harness our collective potential in 2017 by setting ourselves a more ambitious and transformational target. The dinner event we ran before the ECR Board meeting in September identified three big strategic areas of focus for the Reducing Wasted Miles initiative:

  1. Control towers/joint ordering
  2. Collaborative networks
  3. End-to-end collaboration models

While we are fully engaged in delivering transformation in these areas, a major enabler to unlock progress has been agreed - a database of key information to enable collaborative opportunities to be identified. The workgroup proposes to kick off a ground-breaking pilot to model the possibilities of such a database in 2017.

Achievements in 2016

After setting the vision through the thought leadership research in late 2015, our primary focus in 2016 was to convert this into tangible change. This has been achieved through:

Inspiration

  • Promotion of the thought leadership paper through marketing, conferences, events, etc.
  • Further dissemination within our own businesses and supply chains
  • Development of a website with the five-to-drive and roadmap to the future
  • Engagement with those who downloaded the paper to gain insight on its impact

Facilitation

  • Facilitated collaborative event in April which attracted 80 delegates from across 50 companies
  • Opportunities for workgroup members to connect with each other

Acceleration

  • Providing after-care (tracking, support) to the companies with action plans from the event
  • An open forum for the 20+ workgroup members to share ongoing initiatives and best practice

The result is 46 visible project successes but there have been many more conversations, opportunities and seeds planted.
