Terms of Reference:
The Industry Nutrition Strategy Group (INSG) was established in April 2003 in light of the recommendations in the Curry Commission Report, to establish a Group which will examine how the industry can play its part in encouraging healthy eating as part of a healthy lifestyle throughout the UK.
Overall Aim:
To enable the food and drink industry to play a constructive role in the development of integrated, cohesive and balanced nutrition strategies throughout the UK.
Activities:
The INSG has recently developed voluntary guidelines on communicating portion size to consumers, following a review of current approaches to portion size across a range of organisations, and research to understand the consumer perspective. The 2010 programme will change focus and address two areas, ‘Defining and communicating a healthy balanced diet’ and ‘Sugars – improving information and messages to consumers.
