The Industry Sustainability Group (ISG) was established in 2009 following consultation with IGD members. This built on the recognition of the need for the sector to adapt to a more resource-constrained world through the development of insight and good practice on sustainability issues.
Objectives
To keep a watching brief on sustainability issues relevant to food and grocery companies. To interact with IGD members, government, NGOs and other relevant agencies based both in the UK and internationally. For example the group maintains a watching brief on the development of national and international carbon measurement and assessment programmes.
To identify work programmes and deliver specific outputs which provide public benefit through improving industry knowledge, experience and skills.
Outputs
This will include information, good practice guidance, development of common use of terminology and a consistent approach to both methodologies together with communication on sustainability issues.
In 2011 these objectives will be developed through the Industry Sustainability Matrix and Water Stewardship Sub-Groups, producing best-practice guidance.
Outcomes
An increased awareness of the importance of key sustainability issues across the food and grocery supply chain from agriculture to consumer.
