What is the ECR Availability Survey?
Between 2004 and 2011 the ECR Availability Survey tracked on-shelf performance of 200 products in 160 stores providing a industry benchmark of availability. The survey was carried out six times a year across five retailers - Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons and Asda, across eight different categories.
Audits took place across a full calendar week - Thursday to Wednesday - spread across morning, afternoon and evening to provide a reading of how availability differs by day of week and time of day.
Audits were completed by a team of trained auditors who were asked to behave as shoppers, looking for products in their main fixture location.
