Nutrition and Sustainability
Sustainability of our food supply has risen rapidly up the political agenda. The UK Cabinet Office report ‘Food Matters: Towards a Strategy for the 21st Century’ identifies the security of food supply as a priority. A major new study undertaken by the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser will examine how the global food system needs to evolve in a world adapting to, and mitigating, climate change. Furthermore, the government aims to implement a new standard for food served in the public sector in recognition of the need for more nutritious yet environmentally sustainable food.
IGD‘s work in this area has focused initially on environmental sustainability and the extent to which achieving the targets for nutrition set out by recent government strategy will impact the environment.
