IGD's Industry Nutrition Strategy Group has developed a set of fact sheets to provide healthcare professionals (HCPs) with information about food labels.
The aim is to give guidance on the information you can expect to find on food labels, and what it means.
The factsheets may be used in a number of ways:
The factsheets have been developed based on feedback received from HCPs about aspects of food labels on which they require clarity. Click on the following links to read each factsheet:
Notes for food businesses
These factsheets have been put together by a working group from IGD’s Industry Nutrition Strategy Group (INSG) to provide guidance to healthcare professionals (HCPs) on food labelling. HCPs help their patients or clients to meet their dietary requirements by giving them advice on what foods to eat and how to find out about the contents of foods. This involves enabling patients and clients to understand food labels and access information such as the presence of allergens, the saturated fat, salt or energy content of the food, etc.
The factsheets were developed by the INSG working group based on feedback from a survey of over 200 HCPs. They are important for food businesses as they demonstrate the need for clear labelling and underline the requirements of a group of key users of information provided by the industry.
