This document provides a “simplified view” of RRP Material Cycles to improve understanding about existing processes across all parties in the supply chain; to reduce the amount of retail ready packaging (RRP) sent to landfill; and thereby reduce environmental impacts and the cost of raw materials and landfill fees.
'Retail Packaging Material Cycles' provides an overview of how RRP flows through the whole supply chain; not just the parts managed by the reader. Rather than provide all the answers, the document is intended to provide a starting point and a prompt for discussions between packaging supplier and packer filler, packer filler and retailer, etc.
There are several ways you can use the document. If you read it once cover to cover it may reveal or confirm to you what happens in the different packaging materials cycles and in each process element. Even if it doesn’t inspire or enable action, it will have helped improve your understanding of the subject. You can dive in where you have direct influence and challenge yourself with questions like” What could we do better?” and challenge what you read: ECR UK workgroup members have made significant improvements to their performance by implementing actions identified whilst considering the generic packaging material cycles presented in the document.
Having engaged your thought process it is then best to question colleagues, service providers and customers in your RRP material cycles and note down “your thoughts & actions” in the space provided in the document.
