James joined IGD in April 1999 and has served in a number of different roles,
being appointed chief economist in October 2007.
James is our leading author on issues relating to the strategic
challenges facing the grocery industry including macro-economics and
sustainable sourcing. During his time with IGD he has authored or co-authored over 50 publications.
He specialises in strategic research, exploring the impact of political,
economic and environmental changes on the global grocery industry and has
a special interest in helping businesses to future-proof themselves.
Throughout recent economic troubles, James has been following events,
forecasting likely consequences and providing practical suggestions for
businesses to ride out the storm.
A noted public speaker, James has advised the governments of the UK and
Slovenia on food issues. He regularly inputs into research projects commissioned
by clients, including PepsiCo, Citigroup, Masterfoods, and Nestlé.
Prior to joining IGD, James worked at Hillsdown Holdings, Northern Foods
and Rank Xerox. James has a BA (Joint Hons) in Law and Politics from the
University of Nottingham and also holds the Law Society’s Legal Practice
Certificate.
