The Co-operative Group

The Co-operative Group's Charity of the Year partnership with the RNID aimed to help people over 55 who were suffering from hearing loss.

The partnership generated income of over £3.7million, enabling 22 new 'Hear to Help' projects to be established. As a result of those projects, 20,000 people who were previously not receiving any help were given the support they needed.

Anne Edwards, The Co-operative Group's Community Adviser, said, "We were delighted to win the prestigious Unilever Community Award in recognition of the hard work and support from all our colleagues for our partnership with RNID. To receive this acknowledgement, whilst beating stiff competition from some of the best in the industry, is testament to our entire workforce who fundraise and devote a significant amount of their time to benefit good causes.

Receiving this award for our Charity of the Year has given us a terrific boost and endorsement internally. We have communicated our achievement in the trade press and local media and will continue to highlight the award status throughout the life of the Hear to Help projects."

JUDGES' COMMENTS

"This entry addressed an important social issue, with a unique outcome that delivered something beyond fundraising by engaging with customers and colleagues to enable significant change. This was an exceptional example of collaboration which took a typically non-emotive subject and brought it to life."
