Accelerating the uptake of Anaerobic Digestion in England: An implementation plan

The Government is committed to encouraging a significant growth in the use of anaerobic digestion, a technology with great potential to contribute to our climate change and wider environmental objectives. We need a much greater uptake by local authorities, businesses and farmers, and have been working with these stakeholders to support the drive for a faster growth in the use of anaerobic digestion in a way that is both cost effective and beneficial to the environment.

Anaerobic Digestion – Shared goals

This document sets out the shared goals that businesses, regulators, Government and other stakeholders aim to achieve by the cost effective, innovative and beneficial use of anaerobic digestion in England. An Implementation Plan will set out the practical measures that each of these actors will take individually and collectively to achieve these goals.

The Gallagher Review of the indirect effects of biofuels production

UK Government policy on biofuels has been based on making their production and use sustainable. The Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation, which the recently formed Renewable Fuels Agency administers, has at its heart a series of sustainability measures to achieve this goal. However, recent research and rising food prices have highlighted the possible effects of other factors which are not monitored by the current mechanisms.

Towards sustainable energy use for transport

This paper comprises a review of technology roadmaps on sustainable energy use for transport, including road, rail, shipping and aviation. Final submission of the Food Industry Sustainability Strategy Champions' Group on Energy and Climate Change

An Industry led Champions' Group was formed in October 2006 to identify how energy consumption and emissions by the food industry can be reduced. The group membership was made up of representatives from industry, government and the third sector.
