A free report providing information & guidance on micronutrients to scientific and technical personnel within the food industry

  • Increase your understanding of micronutrients
  • Understand some of the current and up-coming relevant legislation relating to micronutrients
  • Identify business opportunities to improve the micronutrient intakes amongst UK consumers

In 2006, IGD began work to examine how the nutrient density of food consumed impacts on the intake of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), particularly among vulnerable groups in the UK. This document for scientific/technical personnel is one of the main outputs of the group.

Micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) are essential for health. Although most people living in the UK have adequate micronutrient intakes of micronutrients, there are some groups with low intakes. Opportunities exist for the grocery industry to play a positive role in helping these consumers.

This document provides:

  • Background information about micronutrients,
  • An overview of legislation relevant to micronutrients
  • Details on micronutrients in nutrient models, scoring systems and standards
  • Information on how micronutrients could be considered during New Product Development and reformulation
  • Case studies, and
  • Highlights potential business opportunities
