In order to maximise shelf fill and accommodate retailer ready packaging "easy replenishment" requirements, ECR UK has compiled a shelf sizes matrix to allow manufacturers to identify areas of commonality in given categories.
The matrix of shelf depths covers four leading retailers - Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Morrisons - and is separated into 35 subcategories by Edible Grocery, Non-Edible, Health & Beauty, BWS, Fresh Food and Frozen Food.
Two specific conditions are outlined that need to be understood before embarking on designing a case size to fit in with "easy replenishment" principles. Illustrations and notes are included to help make best use of the shelf depth data.
