Walmart has announced a range of sustainability based initiatives following
its hosting of a summit on sustainability, with representatives from other
retailers, business leaders and academics attending, to help better understand
how sustainability can also drive sales and profit improvements. The initiatives
announced include:
- The launch of a sustainable product index
- New sustainable distribution centre
- Wind and solar projects
- Website to drive best practice and industry collaboration
Commenting on the launch of the Sustainable Product Index, David
Cheesewright, President and CEO of Walmart Canada, said:
"Customers want value and quality when buying products. They also want to
know that products are being made in a responsible way. Once launched, the
Sustainable Product Index will give customers transparency into the entire
lifecycle of the products they buy, so they know they're safe, made-well and
produced responsibly."
